Coseph Jonrad – R.I.P.

Posted in Coseph Jonrad with tags on April 12, 2012 by magicanddreams

and so we reach the end: 13 albums in 13 months…

…and I left the hardest to last: this one’s not a remix of an actual album, but a compilation tape made by one of my stepfathers, which I inherited when I got my first walkman.

As you can see, the tracklisting is late seventies-tastic:

This was the only volume in the series where the loops were sampled from the actual original cassette (I used vinyl where possible for the rest) so it has particular weird grainy texture.

Here’s ‘Angel Eyes':

The album is available on cdr for £5 including postage in the UK or europe, £6 for anywhere else in the known universe.

All Coseph albums 1-11 are still available; I’ll do you a buy one get one free, your choice of second album.

Coseph Jonrad – paper round tapes volume eleven

Posted in Coseph Jonrad with tags on March 28, 2012 by magicanddreams

The end is in sight, yes it’s the penultimate installment of the Paper Round Tapes:

This one was very tough to do!

I’m pretty sure this is the single album I have listened to most in my entire life, despite only having listened to it a handful of occasions over the past 15 years…

…and it still scares me even after all that time.

here’s ‘dead london’ to stream or download:

This record is also probably to blame for my feeling that albums should always have narrative, and arc, a sense of movement.

Not as explicably as this of course, with full on narration; but I think you can feel a debt to this epic piece of 70’s over-the-topism in my Bss Clef albums (well, allright, maybe not, but I can….)

Here’s ‘the artilleryman and the fighting machine':

The album is available on cdr for £5 including postage in the UK or europe, £6 for anywhere else in the known universe.

Coseph Jonrad – paper round tapes volume ten

Posted in Coseph Jonrad with tags , on February 13, 2012 by magicanddreams

Dear friends,

today is the day that Coseph turns ten…..

As you can see it’s got a heart on it and everything, making it the perfect gift for your loved ones:

FEEL THE POWER OF MY MARKETING

This month’s installment is remixes of an album, that with the benefit of 22 years of hindsight, I can admit I possibly bought for the wrong reasons.

The lead singer notoriously claimed that one day she would win an oscar, and there’s still time folks…

Here is the oh-so-dronemantic ‘the only one’, for you to stream / download / love and cherish:

As so often happens with Coseph albums – the unpredictable alchemy occurs – and hey! this one has come out strangely beautiful, droned and dreamed, a little like Spacemen 3 stretched out and lazy, hazy, well…..you can make up yr own minds (and hearts)…

Here’s ‘falling for a goldmine':

The album is available on cdr for £5 with FREE postage in the UK or europe, please email us:

Coseph Jonrad – paper round tapes volume nine

Posted in Coseph Jonrad with tags on January 22, 2012 by magicanddreams

Dear friends,

welcome to the auspicious and fate-riddled year of twenty twelve.

Here’s our opening salvo:

So we’re two thirds of the way through now…I had to really struggle to unearth a copy to sample of the album this is remixes of.

A greatest hits collection from the late seventies, since superseded several times over – I guess they are just one of those bands that get greatest-hitsetized a lot.

They have HITS. and STRINGS. and a VOCODER.

I still love them.

Here’s ‘evil woman’ to stream or download…

…and here’s ‘Telephone Line':

The album is available on cdr for £5 with postage included in the UK or europe, £6 including postage for the rest of the known universe.

Coseph Jonrad – paper round tapes volume eight

Posted in Coseph Jonrad with tags on December 17, 2011 by magicanddreams

Dear friends, I’m happy to present the last MAGIC + DREAMS release of the year….and what a year it has been…thank you all for your support!

So we reach volume eight and we’re two thirds of the way through…with the last volume (12) dropping tidily on the first birthday of M+D.

I can safely say that the original album this is a remix of, is the one I have listened to the least in my life since the paper round days…I bought it after heady rotation on Capitol FM of the lead single…having none of their previous, more successful, albums.

Have a listen to, or download, ‘Woman In Chains':

It was a bit of a Loveless / Chinese Democracy situation thing for them, taking years to complete and allegedly being the most expensive album to make ever in the history of all time etcetera.

Have a listen to, or download ‘Swords And Knives':

The album is available on cdr for £5 including postage in the UK or Europe, £6 including postage in the US / ROW.

Plus we’re rolling on the buy two get one FREE deal on all our cdrs.

Coseph Jonrad – paper round tapes volume seven

Posted in Coseph Jonrad with tags on November 15, 2011 by magicanddreams

Dear friends,

we’re back on schedule and ready to start sliding down the slippery slope that will be the second half of the Paper Round Tapes….

With the benefit of hindsight I can clearly credit this album with sowing the seed of my later obsession with african music, it’s rhythms and melodies. Though this album happily co-opts music from several continents…

Here’s ‘diamonds on the soles of her shoes':

I was truly obsessed with this album, and it was very difficult to come back to it after all this time, to try and make something new whilst attempting to recapture the wide-eyed wonder and world of escapism it had for me feel the first time round.

Here’s ‘homeless':

The album is available on cdr for £5 including postage to the UK or europe,

or £6 including postage to anywhere else in The Universe….

Here’s a pinkbeiged decelebratized dreammessage approximation (or ‘video’ if you will) for ‘you can call me al':

AS A SPECIAL OFFER, we’re doing a supermarket style

buy two get one free

on all the Coseph albums, that’s volumes 1 to 7:

So that’s THREE cdrs for a tenner. What you waiting for?

FREE COSEPH JONRAD ALBUM

Posted in Coseph Jonrad with tags , on October 28, 2011 by magicanddreams

EDIT: link back up!

Dear friends,

to celebrate reaching the halfway point of the ‘paper round tapes’ series,

I would like to deliver to you a free download of Coseph Jonrad’s ‘FIAT MILLION HITS’…

Normally in the PRT series I do a track-by-track remix of an entire album I obsessed over as a kid, but this time around it’s a remix of the first album I ever got.

Not the first album I ever bought, that came later.

Because this album came free with our car…

I really don’t remember the reasons,  but the car came with a scratch-card. I think top prize was another car.

The sleeve-notes jubilantly proclaim the many successes of FIAT and their million-unit-selling car. Again, I’m not sure why – we’d already bought the car.

They also somehow manage to tie car and album together with an environmental theme – about the island of Madagascar and it’s myriad endangered species.

How or why the car is helping I couldn’t say. There’s a reassuring picture of David Bellamy though.

Anyway what I remember most about the car (the only new car we ever had) was that it had a soft top. So, we couldn’t go to Windsor Safari Park, because lions would get in through the roof and kill us.

(not sure now why I wanted so badly to go to the safari park…I’ve never been as an adult and I’m fairly certain it would be sordid and rubbsh…)

ANYHOO, the ‘million’ theme is reflected in the tracks they’ve managed to beg, borrow, license, or possibly swap cars for, to fill out this ridculous compilation.

All the tracks had sold over a million. Get it?

I already had the 7″ of Ghostbusters (instrumental on the flip – awesome) and I don’t really remember if I actually liked the other tracks on this album, but I sure listened them all to death.

I read the sleevenotes over and over again (to this day Madagascar feels more like Atlantis or Never Never land than a real actual place to me).

So, enough with the story already, get your right clickers ready and:

DOWNLOAD HERE

That’s a rar with all the Coseph mp3s, plus scans of the LP and sleevenotes (it makes a fairly hilarious read, as well as an insight into car marketing strategies of 1984).

…Also I made a video for opening track ‘Rio':

and one for ‘rain again':

There are also a very limited number of tapes available (I think we have 8 at the time of writing).

Hand dubbed on to reel-to-reel style tapes with the catalogue number scrawled on to overhead-projector-plastic:

First come, first served, usual prices, so holler at

if you want one…

THANKS!

Coseph
